Course Description
Dante’s Inferno is a masterpiece of Italian literature. We will read it in two different translations, one of which presents the Italian text and English translation on facing pages, so that whatever your level of Italian proficiency, you can follow both languages. Whether you are religious, agnostic, or atheist, you will be drawn into Dante’s riveting personal stories, his reflections on mid-life crisis, his explorations of the psychology of error, and his political mind. The course is mainly discussion, with two papers (2 pages; 5 pages), a mid-term exam, and a final exam.
